I'm a great fan of Ms Faithfull's 'broken' voice, no pun intended. I guess you would buy, as I did, the album for 'The Ballad of Lucy Jordan' in the days when given the price of singles, you might as well buy the LP. Happily (unlike other LP's/CD's), there are plenty of other tracks to enjoy, inc. Broken English/5().

Marianne Faithfull's album Broken English was a radical departure, featuring a contomeporary fusion of rock and dance, with liberal use of synthesizers. No one was prepared for the transformation of Faithfull's innocent flower child image, her immediately preceding albums had been in a relatively gentle folk or country and western style.

Broken English was reissued as a 2 disc deluxe edition in which included the issued L.P. remastered and the original lost 'rock mix' of the album, plus a selection of bonus tracks including single mixes and 'Sister Morphine' Marianne’s co-write with the Rolling Stones; a song she had first released back in but which was re-recorded.

Marianne Faithfull is the baddest girl that ever lived. Broken English, the unblinking flip side to the Stones' Black and Blue, should be listened to with care. "Why'd Ya Do It" is the perfect song for that person in your life who deserves to die.
